Splendour in the Grass 2010
Have you been to the Splendour Camping page yet and seen the photos from the event earlier this year. What an amazing bunch of young people all in the one place who expressed their gratitude to us all for opening our grounds for camping over the duration of Splendour in the Grass.
We were told numerous times how much they were enjoying their stay and how it was like a real family atmosphere. They said it was nice to be treated well. One seasoned Splendour event camper said “We save the whole year for this experience and we will definitely be back again. In the past we’ve paid our money and been treated badly by the locals and businesses putting up prices, charging outrageous amounts when we are in town, when you are bringing money to a town and treated like that, guess what, you can expect bad behaviour. Since I’ve been here at the showgrounds I haven’t heard a bad word or seen anyone carrying on outrageously. I guess we all appreciate that you have all treated us so well, just like family. And even looked after us with hot coffee, hot chocolate when it was cold, and being able to buy hot food at reasonable prices as well. The people with the stalls also added to that family atmosphere. Well done! ”
From the point of view of the society members these young people were just like family and showed us respect and had fun. Even though we had security on the grounds the whole time these young people behaved remarkably well. A small number of incidents occurred but with a quick word in the right ear all was settled with no dramas. We had heard so many rumours about what to expect and understandably were a bit reticent to begin with. The funny thing was without anyone of us talking to the other we approached these young people in the same way and treated them not only as we would like to be treated but how we would like our own children and grandchildren to be treated at something like this. It was like we were all on the same page without words and the kids responded.
We are more than happy to have you all back again any time.
Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year to you all, stay safe and hopefully we will see you all again this coming year.
